Typed on paper glued to back: “P5 ‘Ashleigh’, Queen Street East, Levin, about 1936. The child is Muriel Vincent. Print donated by Mrs Ian Grey 1985.”

‘Ashleigh’ , the home of James and Clara Prouse, Queen Street East, Levin, c.1936. The two storied wooden house with an iron roof and brick chimneys, faces north and has a well developed flower garden. The child walking across the grass is Muriel Vincient (later Mrs Tom Saulbrey).

The family is dressed semi-formally and the four eldest children (Leslie, Clare, Gilbert and Dora),stand behind their parents and two of their siblings (Cliff to the left and Marjorie to the right). Their youngest sister (Vivian) is seated at the feet of her parents and is holding a tabby kitten. Mr and Mrs Adkin are sitting in wicker chairs.
