Main Street, Foxton, c1870

Main Street, Foxton, looking south from Ihakara Gardens, c1870. In the foreground two graves are surrounded by picket fences. In the centre of the photograph a train can be viewed com9ing northwards on the track whih runs down the centre of Main Street. A number of men with corses and carts are in the area now known as “The Triangle”. Residential and commercial properties along with a church line both sides of the street.

Main Street, Foxton, After the July 1912 Fire

Inscription on reverse reads: “East side, Main Street, after fires July 1912. Mark on church roof below belfry is one of two places where roof caught fire. The fire had to be stopped at this point.”
