Western side of Central Oxford Street, Levin

Western side of Oxford Street, Levin, looking north to Queen St. intersection. 1 B&W / Sepia tone ? postcard.

The street is unsealed and the plane trees are bare of leaves in this photograph which is possibly dated in the early 1920s. In the centre of the photograph two women push a baby’s pram across the street. Their clothing and the clothing of a young woman on the left of the photo suggest that this the early 1920s as their skirts are raised enough to show their ankles. There is a combination of traffic, some motor cars and some horse drawn vehicles. There is a lamp standard in the centre of the street and another at the intersection of Oxford and Queen Streets.
