An unidentified man amongst tree stumps after the first burn at Leighton’s Spur, on the North Block, 1914. Beneath the upper photograph the caption reads: “The First Burn on hilltop – looking from the “seed depot” towards the standing bush on the top of Leighton’s Spur. 7.6.14.

In the lower photograph the same unidentified man sits atop some burnt out trees. The inscription beneath the photograph reads: “The worst mass of beech timber on the First Burn. 7.6.14”

The caption beneath this photograph reads: “Cutting a track along the crest of the main ridge on the First Burn. The spot is the ‘worst mass of birch timber” shown in a previous view. 28.10.14”

The lower photograph (2000.018.0310) shows a drain being cut to divert Styles Creek into the Makahika River. The caption beneath this photograph reads: “Cutting the drain on Stuckey’s side of the mill padock to divert Styles Creek directly into the Makahika River. 29.10.14”
