b) Cutting Cake at Shannon School’s 60th Jubilee, 1949. {original} Mrs Jamieson has the honour of cutting the cake. Mounted with photo (a) on old cardboard.

c) Cutting Cake at Shannon School’s 75th Jubilee, 1964. {original} First year (1889) pupils Mrs Eleanor C. Salter (nee Thompson) at left and Mrs G. Larger caption below the group of pictures - Shannon School Celebrates its Diamond Jubilee: School’s History Reflects Progress of the District. The school in the infant Manawatu settlement of Shannon was opened in 1889 with 17 pupils. Now it has 312 pupils and the roll number is still growing. Several functions were held recently to mark the 60 years of the school’s life and there was a large attendance of old pupils at the main reunion of the school.

e) “Kingston Brake” drawn by 2 horses, with driver & 20 children, c.1907. {original} Mounted on card for use as postcard with faded gold lettering printed below photo: Christmas Greetings From Shannon Embossed on card (bottom right) – N.E. Nielson, photographer. Used in book – “From Bush & Swamp”, page 129, with caption - The horse drawn brake which transported children from the Kingston Road area to Shannon School from 1906. Methods of transport have changed, and so have the fashions. The brake could accomodate about 12 children, but it would appear that it was not just the Kingston Road children who were caught by the camera. Used in book – “Shannon School Centennial Souvenir 1989”, page 47, with caption - The Kingston Road Brake 1907.

f) Shannon School Picnic, a community affair, before 1920. {original} All gathered around the Maypole, temporarily erected beside the rugby field. Used in book – “Combined Jubilee 1974 – Shannon School & Shannon Rugby Football Club”, page 22, with caption - The May Pole at the Shannon School Picnic.
