Left Column (top to bottom) - a) Mr Alexander Hogg Morgan, teacher, with bicycle outside school gate. {copy} Information in book – “Shannon School Centennial Souvenir 1989”, pages 12, 17 & 66 - 17 years service from 7 April 1920 to 16 December 1936, and served as acting principal on three occasions: 11 September 1924 to 2 March 1925, 1 March 1929 to 7 July 1930, 5 February 1934 to 1 March 1934.

g) ‘Shannon School early playground photo’, girls at “whirly-gig”, c.1900. {copy} Used in book – “Shannon School Centennial Souvenir 1989”, page 10, with reminiscence from as caption - Elizabeth Conchie (nee Harris) remembers that: “The school used to have a big cartwheel on an axle standing on its end with ropes hanging down which we called the ‘Whirly-gig’ and my sisters and I were told not to go on it as it was too dangerous but like most children I took no notice and went on it. A girl called Emma Stern used to pull one of the ropes to get it going and we all used to fly way out sometimes nearly level with the wheel. Well, I came off and made an awful mess of my face with gravel rash (I told my Mother that I had fallen down the hill). I was very miserable. One girl Maisie Brown, broke her collar bone when she came off it and went over the fence.”

Hazel Drake Memorial Trophy

Silver flower bowl (with removable spacing grill) mounted on black painted wooden base.

Engraved on nameplate attached to side of bowl - HAZEL DRAKE MEMORIAL — TROPHY — MANAKAU ~ W.D.F.F.

Engraved on small silver shields are Year and Name of winner, for years – 1962 to 1966 and 1986 to 1996.

In 1962 the interior of the Presbyterian Church was being renovated with new furnishings. Mrs Audrey Willing made this pulpit fall which was used in the church until June 1970 when the Foxton Union Parish was formed.

One embroidered, blue velvet pulpit fall, with beige fringe around edge.
