St Marys Anglican Church, 1897

The first St Mary’s Anglican Church, on the corner of Cambridge Street and Manchester Street in 1897. This church was erected in 1896 at a cost of £331.5s.2d. and was consecrated by Bishop Wallis, the Bishop of Wellington on 16 April 1899. This building was moved across Manchester Street in 1954 to make the site available for the building opf the new church.

The church at the top is the Foxton Methodist Church and the church at the bottom is the Shannon Methodist Church.

Mrs A Collins, Miss A Collins and T U Cook

Inscription on reverse reads: “Annie Amelia “Milly” Collins – eldest daughter of James M Collins and Annie Collins (nee Cook). Born in NZ. (I have the date at home – her baptism record is in Rangiatea Church Records. Thomas Uppadine Cook. Annie Collins wife of James Motteshead Collins Senior.”

Thomas Uppadine Cook, his eldest daughter Annie and her eldest daughter Amelia 1897. In this photograph Annie Cook sits on the left while her father sits to the right. Amelia Cook stands behind them.
