13 August 1914 – In NZ until embarkation on 14 October 1914
15 October 1914 – Departed NZ for overseas

On the 8th May they embarked aboard TS Grantully Castle in Alexandria, leaving port at
6pm, 9 May, with the 3rd Regiment Australian Light Horse aboard the same ship. The
TS Grantully Castle arrived off the entrance to the Dardanelles at 5.30am, 12 May
arriving Anzac at 12.30pm. By 3pm the next day the Wellington Mounted Rifles were in
position in the trenches and worked the rest of the daylight hours and all through the
night improving the trenches.
