Mr Thomas Alva Edison (b.1847 – d.1931) 1 B&W photo print
Prolific inventor. 1876 set up his industrial research laboratory (Menlo Park). 1877 invented phonograph. 1879 demonstrated his carbon filament lamp. With George Westinghouse built electric generating station and large scale electric street lighting demonstration. 1883 accidentally discovered the “Edison effect”, which later became the basis of the electron tube.
