Description

When we built our house Playford Park had a big hole where the playing fields are now. Round the edges grew blackberries which made beautiful jam, though it was a scratchy blood sport to pick them.

In the sixties the council began to use this large hole as a rubbish tip. My pre-school children were delighted. It was a great entertainment to them to see the large trucks moving round and the interesting things people discarded. They tried to sneak their prize scavengings into the house, but their spoil sport parents insisted they take them back.

Eventually the hole was filled and the ground levelled and turned into playing fields.

The football club uses the grounds and soccer was played there. Some golfers practiced on the wide open spaces. A fitness track was built. on which was pursued a modicum of fitness.

These days the grounds are a little bumpy and the fitness track has gone but it is still a beautiful open space.
