The Evening Post of 21 July 1922 reported:

Fire

A fire which broke out early this morning involved premises occupied by; Mrs. Merritt, restaurant keeper, and Mr. Lemmon, butcher. Both places were gutted. The insurances were On the building owned by Mr. Lemmon, £500; on stock and engine, £225; on Mrs.: Merrit's stock and fittings, £360.
