Waiting shed (“Station”) at left with 2 sets of railway lines at right.
Used in book – “From Bush & Swamp”, page 30, with caption - The first Shannon railway station, looking south, about 1890. This waiting shed was moved to Paraparaumu when the present railway station was built by the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company. Large areas of standing bush can be seen clearly in this photograph.
Also used in book – “Uncommon Carrier”, page 92, with caption - This view of Shannon, looking south about 1888, shows the density of the unfelled bush, the telephone-linked shelter, the loop siding, and a goods brake on the dead-end siding.
