Mr & Mrs Thomas Hensman, early settlers. Thomas Hensman purchased land at the first sale in 1887, and later joined Alexander Cassie in a building partnership. He was a great temperance man, a foundation member of the Debating Society and loved to write poetry. Descendants of the Hensmans live in Palmerston North and Queenstown.
