Levin teenage long distance swimming sensation, Karena Doig, is Horowhenua's ,achiever of the year.

Her outstanding Cook Strait swim earlier this year, only eight days after her 15th birthday, was the feat that saw her top a male dominated field which included Olympic canoeist, John MacDonald, and National Olympic Committee executive member, Mr Roy Dutton OBE.

Karena's prizes included a gold watch, $500 and $500 to the charity of her choice, Medic Alert.
