This report of the meeting was published in the Manawatu Herald on 19 February 1891 - obtained from PapersPast, National Library of New Zealand.

At the meeting of above on Satur­day the members present were - Crs Kebbell (Chairman), Simcox, Davis, Venn, Tompsitt, Bills, and Atkins.

The following business was tran­sacted: -

An application from Mr Hancock for permission to take clay for brick­making from cutting south of Levin station was referred to the Chairman and Crs Davies to report on.

An application from Mr Forsaith for permission to take metal from south side of Waikawa river was referred to Otaki Road Board for ar­rangement.

Resolved that notice be given of intention to take the land necessary for constructing a road from Mill road to Otaki river, giving access to Railway station.

The report of Committee on Wai­kanae crossing was adopted. The report stated that the Committee had met the Committee of the Hutt Council, and inspected the proposed site just west of railway bridge. The Committee decided to recommend this site provided the Hutt Council can secure it from the Railway Com­pany, and were in favour of abandon­ing the road laid off on east side of railway line, and taking the road along west side from Hadfield to Waikanae, provided there is no diffi­culty about the bridge site.

The chairmen reported that in­structions have been given to Mr G. L. R. Scott, engineer, to prepare plans &c for the County Road north of Shannon in readiness for that meeting, formation to be 18ft in width.

It was resolved to call for tenders for formation and culverting of County road north of Shannon in two contracts, and the engineer was also instructed to prepare plans, &c., for formation on County road from Kingston road to Victoria road.

Resolved to give notice of intention to strike a rate of ½d in the £ on the special district constituted in connec­tion with the £1500 loan.

Petitions were presented in connection with removing the Shannon Pound - one in favour and one against. It was resolved to rescind the resolution appointing section 322, Shannon, as a site for public pound, and in place of this notify 202 as a site.

The County Ganger was instructed to inspect a creek, the state of which was complained of by Mr J. G. Andrews.

Mr J. Herbert Hankins, as solici­tor for Mr McPherson, wrote claim­ing compensation for land taken for road at Shannon, viz., 2 acres 3 roods. The amount claimed for the land was £11, and damages for severance £50, Council to erect and maintain a sheep proof fence. Mr Hankins pointed out the land could not now be taken under the Public Works Act, as the road had been made through the sections without authority.

After some discussion it was re­solved to accept Mr McPherson's price for land taken, and inform him that the Council proposes to take 1½ chains in width to allow fencing to be erected clear of spoil. Also that Council will erect a legal wire fence with necessary gates, but cannot un­dertake to maintain fence, or agree to demand compensation.

The tender of J. Breen at £185 10s was accepted for contract D1, and that of E. G. Drayton at £32 for contract E.

Resolved to call tenders for drain­ing, stumping, and clearing about 71½ chains between Hadfield and Waikanae, and for excavating and carting about 300 yards metal on to Levin road south of station to Were­roa clearing.

Resolved that the piece of road fronting Mr Staple's house be formed by the roadman as far as Mr Atkin's boundary.

Accounts amounting to £313 17s 11d were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
