The Evening Post of 11 November 1912 reported:

Fire At Levin

By a fire on Sunday the premises of Scott, pastrycook, and Thompson, bookseller, were badly gutted. It appears to have started in the rear of the pastrycook's shop. Both stocks were damaged considerably by fire and water. Thompson was insured for £500 in the State office and Scott for £75 in the New Zealand Insurance Company.
