This is a 'classic' play in which the action centres around a tramp, Davies, who has been thrown out of a cafe and needs somewhere to live. He is a homeless vagrant who spends his life travelling around London, going from one contact to another, all in search of some repose, some centre. His is taken in by brother Aston and Mick and made welcome, but is also ridiculed and threatened. Opportunities spring up and are closed down. Thus, the play is on one level a parable about seemingly random acts of charity and aggression. Written in 1960, it is regarded as a modern classic of the theatre. Make a note in your diary now!
