From those early days the "Brigade" has progressed to a modern much respected and vital part of the Horowhenua community. On the 15th February 1964, the Brigade celebrated it's 50th Anniversary.

The celebrations started a 10.30am, commencing with a parade through the Waitarere township. The parade was extremely well supported by community organizations, (Boy Scouts, Bowling clubs, School clubs, fishing clubs etc.), and many people from the Horowhenua and outside regions.Fire Brigades from all the regional areas and Palmerston North took part, bringing with them much of their fire fighting equipment. All this made for a huge parade.
