Opposition to borough status:

Levin's emergence as a borough was not brought about as smoothly or enthusiastically as one might think. The proposal met with a great deal of opposition, led by Mr F. G. Roe, who later became a councillor.

Maori leader:

A prominent Maori leader of the Levin district was Mr Tumeke Wehipeihana, who was born in Ohau in 1879.

The 96th birthday of Mrs Ani Wehipeihana was marked with this cake in July 1973. Mre Wehipeihana was a well known personality in Levin. She lived almost all her life at Kuku.

Eratic drivers:

A proposal to "metal" some corners with broken beer bottles was seriously suggested 75 years ago in a bid to stop erratic and dangerous drivers of motor cars who persisted in taking corners at a faster speed than walking pace.
