Description

Mr S. Brewster. who has taken an active part in Wellington swimming clubs convened the meeting, which was very largely attended. Mr J. G. Hankins presided, and in opening the proceedings, explained the object of the gathering. By the large attendance, present, he said it was apparent that all were agreed that a swimming club should be formed, and he thought it would not be out of place on that occasion to congratulate the town on the fact that it possessed baths. He proposed that a swimming club be now formed. Mr E. W. J. Smith seconded the motion, which was unanimously adopted. The chairman incidentally announced that thirty-seven names had been submitted as members. It was decided to call the club the Coronation Amateur Swimming Club.
