Rose embarks on new journey

By FRANKIE WEBB HOROWHENUA CHRONICLE, Wednesday, April 24, 2013

Journeys to Wellbeing day activity centre is a happy place but tears flowed when peer support worker and co-ordinator Rose Rickett bid farewell.

I'll still see everybody," Rose said as she addressed a group of wellwishers gathered for her final day. "I'm not going to be far away."

Rose joined Journeys in 2011 when it was known as Footsteps. Rumour has it Jack Allen Community House headhunted her for her new role.

"I have it on good authority Rose was approached to apply for her new position, "said peer support worker and Levin centre manager, Sally Tohill.
"Rose's skill and warmth towards people has not gone unnoticed."

Originally Rose joined the Journeys team as joint co-ordinator. She introduced what was to become her trademark, Trash to Treasure craft classes.

"She didn't just bring us her skills as a crafter, she also showed a warmth and concern for the people who attend this centre," Sally said.

Recognising her special personality, she was soon promoted to peer support worker, maintaining the co-ordinator job as well.
The road for Rose hasn't always been a smooth one over the past two years. "Rose has weathered many a storm over the past two years, both
personally and at work, "Sally said. She always faced them with a fierce belief in justice and faith in God. It is with great sadness in our hearts we
bid her goodbye, she will take a little piece of each of us with her.”
