The Wanganui Chronicle of 26 October 1909 reported:
AT LEVIN. October 25.
RAILWAY STATION DESTROYED.
The Levin Railway Station was burned down at 3 o'clock this morning, only the luggage-room being left standing. The whole of the luggage and cash in hand £40) were saved. Everything else was destroyed. The origin of the fire is unknown, there being no apparent cause. Trains are expected to be delayed today pending permanent arrangements. The Fire Brigade's good work is accountable for the saving of property.
