Goods came by ship to Foxton:
Transport to and from Levin before the First World War was mostly carried out by shipping goods to the Foxton wharf-and then by horsedrawn vehicle to Levin, a 23km trip that took about 3 hours.

Nearly 80 years of transport:
Cappers Transport had been carrying freight around Levin for nearly 80 years-ever since the late Archie MacFarlane started providing transport with his horse and dray.
This photo shows a boiler for a Levin sawmill being transported from Levin to Otaki Gorge by Mr Archie McFarlane, about 1917.

Difficult or unusual loads carried over the years include:
- A 93ft long load of roof trusses from Tokomaru to Lower Hutt
- A load of steel trusses 24ft wide and 30ft lonf from Smith Steel to Welligton
- A live elephant from a visiting circus from one part of Levin to another local area.
- Eight tonnes of live eels, together with the water they were swimming in to the local eel factory in Levin.
- A live mouse circus from Wellington to Levin for A. W. Allen Ltd.
- One furniture removal which included fowls, live pigs and goats, together with farm implements, besides the more conventional furniture.
