The Evening Post 4 August 1936 reported:
Blaze Near Levin
The Koputaroa Public Hall was completely destroyed by fire early yesterday morning. During the previous evening the hall had been used by members of the Koputaroa Badminton Club, and when they left everything appeared to be in order.
The building, which had been recently painted and reconditioned, was insured for £600 in the State Fire Office and the piano was also covered in the same office for, £30. The hall was built about thirteen years ago through the enterprise of the settlers and proved a boon to the people of Koputaroa.
