The Evening Post of 27 April 1922 reported:
Fire At Shannon
Four shops destroyed
The biggest fire in twelve years occurred in Shannon early this morning, resulting in the destruction of four shops occupied by Burr (tobacconist and billiard loom), Mrs. Coakley (tea rooms), Watterston (plumber.), and Thwaites (chemist). The premises of the Shannon Meat Company were saved with great difficulty. The fire raged for three hours. The insurances are reported to be very small. The building was owned by Messrs. Carter, Watterston, Gill, and Roach.
