Parton Mrs A W

President Levin Red Cross 1951 - 1957

Mrs Parton, the fourth President joined the Red Cross in 1944 and remained an active sewing member, coming regularly to the Thursday sewing circle for many years.

From 1945 to 1951 she was Secretary and Treasurer to three Presidents. Resigning from these positions, she was elected President and held the position from 1951 - 1957.

Mr Parton became the Mayor in the first year of her Presidency and also Patron of the Red Cross. Mrs Parton had the honour of becoming Mayoress and also President of the Red Cross at the same time, something no one else has achieved. In her ten years of being secretary, treasurer & president she was an ardent worker and Mr Parton, as Patron during her term of office, gave her stalwart support in every way. When they both resigned from their roles in 1957, Mrs Parton was presented with a Spode bowl filled with flowers. In 1958 Mrs Parton was nominated as a Vice-president.

At the Jubilee in 1966, she was amongst those awarded a long service medal, having given 22 years service.

She has served on several executive committees and still has a hand in Red Cross affairs. At the opening of the Red Cross rooms Mr Parton generously offered to be responsible for expenses incurred on that day. As Mrs Parton expressed it "t'is a dream come true after many years of dreaming about it."

Mrs Parton died in August 1973 at the age of 83
