Foxton Railway Station, 1877
- Description
Black and white laminated photocopy.
Printed below photograph - Foxton’s Main Street railway station in 1877, just one year after the wooden tramway’s conversion to a railway. The afternoon train for Feilding, headed by one of the section’s three 17-ton locomotives (later to become the “F” class), stands in the loop by the station platform, while standing on the main line is the embryo assembly for the next morning’s train. On the extreme left is the old tramway carriage shed, still in use, and behind the engine are the goods and night sheds. The multi-gabled structure on their left is the new post office. The line to the wharf curves to the right behind the group of onlookers.
