The Evening Post of 18 February 1927 reported:
Block Destroyed
A large block of three shops in Shannon was destroyed by fire early this morning. One shop was occupied by Aitcheson and Son (grocers), another by G. C. Young (cycle shop), and the third was vacant. The block was owned by Mr. H. Hook, and the building and stocks were a total loss. At one time there seemed a danger of the fire spreading, and the Levin- brigade were telephoned for, as there is no brigade in Shannon. A detachment from Levin went 12 miles to the scene by car and checked the spread of the flames. The insurances are not yet available.
