The Hawera and Normanby Times of 5 October 1915 reported:
Fire - Levin
This morning at 1.35 a fire occurred at Pringle and Haste's building in Oxford Street, occupied by S. Ladelle (photographer) and R. E. Lucas (bookseller and stationer). The building and contents were destroyed completely, and the fronts of adjoining shops owned by F. C. Remington, and occupied by the Modern Printing Co. and F. C. Remington (chemist) were damaged slightly. Insurances are: Pringle and Haste, £450; Lucas, on stock, £375; Ladelle, £132; Modern Printing Co., £230 (damage about £40); Remington, on building £350, and stock £700.
