A list of articles for Mothers to take into Maternity Hospital


Dressing-gown, (not sheer) washable, not too long.
Night-gowns, Open down front (as front opening easier when breastfeeding)
Bed jacket
Slippers or jandals in summer
Panties
Maternity brassieres
Sanitary belt. 3 packets sanitary pads (maternity size)
Two facecloths.
Toothbrush.
Toilet articles including a deodorant.
Card of large safety pins, (curved type)
Watch or clock, (for feeding times)
Tube of lanoline
Please do not bring valuable articles to hospital.
All care is taken but any articles in the patients locker are held at patients own risk.
For Baby: (Not needed until day of discharge)
One gown
One singlet
Three napkins
Warm cuddly blanket or shawl
Bootees and bonnet

Patients usually brought in their belongings in a suitcase and it was the job of staff to check off the contents and put them away into lockers.
Some times there was a surprise upon opening up a suitcase!
Once, the sole contents were found to be, one Mickey Mouse comic and a dressin gown!
Another time, some cigarettes, san pads, and curling rags only !
