Diary events, Shannon School 1950's:



22nd May 1950:

Mr. A. P. Commenced as Head Teacher.

22nd August 1952:

Mr. Swindlehurst presented 10 trees grown from seed collected from the island of St. Helena (7 Of these are still standing behind the junior block.

17th April 1953:

The school finally vacated the Mangaore Hall which had been in use as a classroom for almost three years. Infant classes occupied the 2 new rooms of the present Infant block.

December 1954:

The new Memorial Hall was used to stage a school concert.

1st April 1955:

Mr. T. A. Hardie commenced as Head Teacher.

1st February 1956:

Convet School opened resulting in withdrawal of 41 pupils.

9th September 1957:

Mr. F. Cummings commenced duties as Head Teacher.

18th September 1959:

New Administration Block opened.
