The Colonist of 19 May 1910 reported:
Fire at Shannon.
A fire occurred on Monday night, which destroyed a row of buildings adjoining Stansell's auction mart. The fire' broke out in Monteith's billiard saloon, and spread to the Silver Grid. Stansell's auction rooms, and a boarding house, which' were all destroyed. There is no brigade in the town and no fire bell. The insurances are not known as yet.
