Mr E.J. Murphy, Foxton, with one of the various vehicles used during the long period
that he carried mail between Levin and Foxton.

Murphys also provided transport for passengers and parcels.

Prior to the construction of the ramp at Whirokino, the road was often impassable
because of flooding from the Manawatu River, forcing Mr Murphy to travel between
Foxton and Levin via Shannon.

On his retirement, the business was operated for many years by his son, Mr E. Murphy.
