The Second World War was sometimes a long way off from peacefull little Levin- but it seemed alot closer the night two American marines accidently demolished the Wiokino Bridge.

Prior to the construction of the ramp at Whirokino, the road was often impassable
because of flooding from the Manawatu River, forcing Mr Murphy to travel between
Foxton and Levin via Shannon.On his retirement, the business was operated for many years by his son, Mr E. Murphy.
