Candidate for Horowhenua District Council
Greetings,
I am standing for the Levin ward of the Horowhenua District Council. I am offering my services of a fresh independent viewpoint contributing to making our community a better place, based on the values and experience below.
You may not know much about me. My wife, Jill, and I moved to Levin in 2002 from Wellington. We enjoy the Horowhenua lifestyle and if you give me your vote I will work to maintain our lifestyle, and improve it where possible.
You may be interested to know what I will bring to the Council table. All of my working life has been in insurance. Until 1987 I held various positions, including a 17 year career with Royal Insurance. This came to an end in 1987 when I decided to work for myself and set up an insurance broking business, specialising in life, income protection and health insurance. In May of this year I sold this business and now I am able to work full time to represent you on the Council. My career has involved many facets of the insurance industry, including at a senior management level.
Over the years I have had many community positions which have prepared me to be a Councillor. These include:-
1976 - 1980 Member of Chamber of Commerce Kaitaia, President 1979/80
1980 – Present Member of Rotary, President of the Rotary Club of Wellington Central 1993/94.
1982 - 84 Played a pivotal role in establishing inaugural Community Grants Scheme (COGS); addressing the problems of “Youth at risk”. This inaugural group was chosen by staff from the Office of the Prime Minister as a pilot. I was selected as the 1st person to chair this group.
1987- Present Appointed a Justice of the Peace.
1996 Awarded Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary club of Wellington Central
Other Activities Involvement in Jaycees, school committees, Toastmasters.
Ethical Values Elder in Presbyterian Church 20 years; Soldier in The Salvation Army since 1996.
I am offering my services of a fresh independent viewpoint contributing to making our community a better place, based on the values and experience above.
