Son of Hector McDonald and Te Kopi, niece of Te Rauparaha.
Hector's son, Hugh Joseph McDonald, from his first marriage to Te Kopi (Ngati Raukawa). She died in childbirth on 14 april 1848.
Hugh was raised alongside Hector's and Agnes's other children and is buried in the family cemetery on Moutere Road, Hokio, Levin.
