Membership and annual programme.
Membership of the Horowhenua Dance Club currently stands at 116 (June 2008). Attendance at the Monday evening dances is approximately 40 to 50 people, the Saturday night attendance from 60 to 80 persons. Special dance nights attracting up to 140 dancers.
The cost factor of membership is very low, the annual membership fee being $5, Monday night door charge is $3, and Saturday night $5 for men and ladies a plate.
The Club programme for each year includes club,or practise nights each Monday evening from 7.30 pm to 10 pm, dances every second Saturday from 7.30 pm to 11.00 pm and a number of special dances.
In May an 'Anniversary Dance" is held to commemorate the founding of the Club in 1963. A 'Member's Night" is held in July/August which is usually a free night for members, with special catering for supper and lots of fun dances included in the programme. In recent years a 'Benefit Dance' has been held in October, when money is raised for a selected charity or community organisation. In December a 'Christmas Dance ' is held and a 'New Years Eve' dance on 31st December.
Each of these is a special night when the hall is decorated and special catering provided.
Many thousands of dollars have been raised at the Benefit NIght Dances and donated to such organisations as the following: Plunket Society, Fire Service, Rangiatea Church, National Heart Foundation, Cancer Support, Sea Cadets, National Heart Foundation, St. Mary's Parish, Food Bank, Community Patrol, St. John's Ambulance, and many others.
On Saturday 11 October 2008 the Club will hold its annual Benefit Dance, the proceeds of this evening will be donated to the Horowhenua Community Health Shuttle
