The following resolutions passed:—

That the Chairman be authorised to sign on behalf of this Coincil the petition re alterations in the Land Laws [?] received from the Tauranga County Council.

That the Council, while fully recognising the necessity for a change in the election of Licensing Boards, regrets that it cannot support the proposal of the Hutt County Council that the local bodies receiving the fees should grant the licenses; but would agree to the boards being appointed by the Governor, but the Resident Magistrates and Justices should act as formerly.

That the Chairman be authorised to sign on behalf of this Council the petition of the Pahiatua County Council re amendments in Lands Act, and-to co-operate with the said Council in the object stated.

That a slaughtering license be granted to J.R . McDonald on his paying the usual slaughtering fee.

That Mr J. Howell be allowed to cut firewood on County road, from Gear and King’s south boundary to Te Horo district road.

That the report of the Charitable Aid Committee and the report of the Committee appointed to report on Mr Rumsey‘s thistle-cutting contract be adopted.

That Charitable aid to the amount of four rations a day be allowed Mrs Abbott during the pleasure of the Council, and the allowance of 10s per week to be discontinued from this date.

That tenders be called for the formation of Tokomaru road, viz., from gravel pit to the Tokomaru road south, also for formation from Ohau river to Levin station, and from Shannon towards Buckley road.

That notice be given that the County road from Waikawa river to the Manakau railway station is closed for wheeled traffic until further orders.

That the report of the committee appointed to draw up regulations for erecting toll-gate and fixing scale of tolls to be taken at junction of County and Kereru roads, be adopted.

That this Council, having heard Mr James Wallace’s request for assistance to open up a road from Shannon to Eketahuna, by means of loan under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, is of opinion that the Wirokino Road Board is the proper local body to deal with the matter.

That tenders be called for felling and clearing that portion of the Couuty road from the Te Horo railway station to Mr. Gillies‘ north boundary.

That tenders be called for fencing according to specifications from Te Horo railway station to Mr. Gillies’ north boundary.

That notice be given that it is the intention of the Council to strike a general rate of ¾ in the £ on the rateable value of all rateable properties in the Whirokino, Otaki and Te Horo Ridings of the Horowhenua County for the period from the 1st April, 1889, to the 31st March, 1890, and the same shall become due and payable on the 1st day of July, 1889, in one instalment, at the County office 0taki, and the rate book will be open for inspection during office hours.

That a special meeting of the Council be called for Wednesday, 26th June, at 2 p m for the purpose of striking the proposed rate of ¾ in the £ and to receive and deal with tenders.

That tenders be called for cutting on the County road according to plans and specifications south of the Otaki river in the Te Horo Riding; tenders to be in by next ordinary meeting.
